Books, Taxes And Big Decisions, Covered Every Month.

Most of our clients work with us month to month, on one of three packages built around how much of the accounting you want to hand over. Every one of them includes your business return, your personal return and a team that already knows your numbers.

Accounting And Tax Services In Michigan

Our clients are established owners who want one team handling the books, the payroll, the filings and the advice, on a predictable monthly relationship. That monthly relationship is the heart of the practice.

Each package closes your books every month, walks you through your financial statements and files your business and personal returns. What changes between them is how much of the day-to-day we carry: the whole back office, a CFO-level seat at the table while your team keeps the entries, or a professional close and the full tax side.

Not every business needs every service. What we scope for you depends on what the business does, how much of it you want to keep in-house and where things are currently getting away from you. That conversation happens before anything is agreed, and the scope of work is put in writing.

Three Monthly Packages, One Standard Of Work

Choose how much of the accounting comes off your desk. Whichever you pick, the month is reviewed, closed and explained to you, and the tax side is handled by the people who already know your books.

Back Office

Your whole accounting department, handled.

For owners who want bookkeeping, bills, invoicing and payroll off their desk entirely.

Day to day: we enter your transactions in QuickBooks Online, reconcile your bank and card accounts and keep the books current every week.

Everything in the CFO package, plus:

  • Income and expenses recorded in QuickBooks Online every week
  • Invoices and accounts receivable reports prepared for you
  • Bills paid on time, as cash flow allows
  • Weekly or bi-weekly payroll in the payroll platform we agree on
  • Federal and state payroll tax returns, including W-2s and W-3s, when a PEO is not already covering them
  • Help with your workers' compensation audits

CFO

Your team keeps the entries. We bring the CFO view.

For owners with someone in-house on day-to-day entry who want an outside advisor reading the numbers with them every month.

Day to day: your team enters transactions and reconciles accounts in QuickBooks Online; we record income and expenses monthly and review everything behind them.

Everything in Accounting & Tax, plus:

  • Monthly bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online
  • An annual planning meeting to set aggressive but realistic targets for the year ahead
  • Monthly meetings to analyze results, update the scores against those targets, build forecasts and set next steps
  • Virtual attendance at your annual financial planning meeting

  • Cash flow and budgeting beyond day-to-day bill payments
  • Raising capital and communicating with investors
  • Loans and financing from financial institutions
  • Acting as your liaison with banks, attorneys, vendors and insurance agents
  • Merger and acquisition support, and exit strategy for shareholders
  • Analysis of equipment purchases and expansions

Prefer To Work With Us Once A Year?

The practice is built around monthly clients, and we also prepare annual returns for individuals and businesses. Here is what that includes.

Individual Tax Returns

Your annual federal return, and any state or city return that applies, prepared accurately and in detail using every legal means to keep your income tax as low as it can be.

  • Documents sent to us and finished returns delivered electronically
  • One consultation by phone, video call or email, with no surprise bill afterward
  • Calls and emails returned by the next business day, even in busy season
  • Help answering tax authority letters about the year we prepared
  • A portfolio review with our financial planning partner, scheduled when you ask for it
  • An extension filed if your documents are not all in by March 15

You also choose one tax appointment: a pre-preparation meeting to walk through what changed during the year, a post-preparation review of the results and a plan for next year (the one we suggest), or a mid-year tax consultation.

Business Tax Returns

One annual business return, whether that is Form 1120, 1120-S or 1065, prepared and filed for you.

If the year calls for more than a return, consultations, accounting, financial statement preparation and responses to tax notices are all available whenever you need them.

When that starts happening every few months, one of the monthly packages above is usually the simpler way to work.

Every Service, Grouped

The packages are built from these. Open a group to see what each service covers, and ask about any one of them on its own if that is all you need.

Bookkeeping

The monthly rhythm everything else depends on, kept current in QuickBooks Online.

Monthly Bookkeeping

Transactions coded, accounts reconciled and the period closed every month, so your records are current instead of reconstructed once a year.

Financial Statement Preparation

Profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow statements prepared on a set schedule and formatted so the lines mean something for your business.

Chart Of Accounts Setup

An account structure built around how your business earns and spends, with the product, department or location detail you need to see margin honestly.

Quarterly Bookkeeping

A three-month close cycle for lower-volume or seasonal businesses, with the same reconciliation and reporting discipline as the monthly service.

Annual Bookkeeping

A full year built, reconciled and closed, including catch-up work when records have fallen behind or arrived from a previous preparer in poor shape.

QuickBooks Online Setup And Management

File setup, bank and card feeds, cleanup of what was miscoded before we arrived, and ongoing day-to-day management. The file stays yours throughout.

Every bookkeeping service

Tax Services

Business and personal returns prepared by the same team that keeps your books, so planning happens during the year rather than after it.

Business Returns, S-Corp (Form 1120-S)

Preparation and filing for S-Corporations, including shareholder basis tracking, reasonable compensation considerations and K-1s issued on time.

Business Returns, C-Corp (Form 1120)

Corporate returns prepared from closed books, with the timing and deduction decisions worked through before the filing rather than during it.

Business Returns, Partnership And LLC (Form 1065)

Partnership and multi-member LLC returns, allocations reviewed against the operating agreement, and K-1s prepared for every partner.

Sole Proprietor And Single-Member LLC (Schedule C)

Schedule C preparation for owner-operated businesses, including the home office, vehicle and equipment questions that come with them.

Personal And Individual Returns (Form 1040)

Individual returns for business owners and their families, prepared alongside the business return so the two actually agree with each other.

Tax Planning And Strategy

Entity structure, timing, retirement and equipment decisions looked at while there is still time to act on them. Planning is a conversation during the year, not a line item in April.

Quarterly Estimated Tax Payments

Estimates calculated from real year-to-date numbers rather than last year's return, with payment reminders so nothing arrives as a penalty.

Prior Year Unfiled Returns

Back returns reconstructed and filed, in order, so you can get current with federal and state authorities and stop carrying it around.

Amended Tax Returns

Corrections to previously filed returns, whether the original was prepared elsewhere or something changed after filing.

Sales Tax Filing And Compliance

Michigan sales tax calculated, filed and reconciled to the books, with the registration and reporting detail that retail and food service businesses live with monthly.

Every tax service

Payroll

Employees paid correctly and on time, with the year-end paperwork already handled. We work in Gusto, ADP and QuickBooks Payroll.

Payroll Processing, Weekly

A weekly pay cycle run on schedule, with hours, deductions and tax filings handled and nothing left for you to remember on a Friday.

Payroll Processing, Bi-Weekly

The same service on a two-week cycle, including new hire setup, terminations and the reporting that follows each of them.

1099-NEC And 1099-MISC Preparation And Filing

Contractor payments tracked through the year, W-9s chased before January, and forms prepared and filed on time.

Workers' Compensation Audit Support

Payroll records, classifications and supporting schedules pulled together for your annual workers' compensation audit, so the auditor gets what they asked for the first time.

Every payroll service

Business Formation And Registration

Getting the entity, the filings and the federal paperwork right at the start, which is far cheaper than fixing it later.

LLC Formation

Formation filed with the State of Michigan, with the structure and tax election discussed before the paperwork goes in rather than after.

S-Corporation Formation

Formation and S-election, with a clear-eyed look at whether the election actually helps your situation and what it commits you to.

C-Corporation Formation

Corporate formation for businesses whose ownership, investment or growth plans call for it.

EIN And Federal Tax ID Application

Your federal employer identification number obtained and recorded, ready for banking, payroll and state registration requirements.

DBA (Doing Business As) Registration

Assumed name registration for businesses operating under a name other than the legal entity name.

Annual Report Filing

The yearly state filing prepared and submitted on time, so your entity stays in good standing without you tracking the date.

Every formation and registration service

Accounting And Financial Reporting

The monthly package that turns a bookkeeping file into something you can make decisions from.

Monthly Financial Reporting Package

A prepared package rather than a folder of exports: the statements, the comparisons that matter for your business, and a short written note on what moved and why.

Cash Flow Analysis And Forecasting

A forward view of what is coming in and going out, built around payroll, tax and seasonal swings, so hiring, inventory and equipment decisions are made with the cash picture in front of you.

Accounting and financial reporting services

CFO And Advisory Services

An outside advisor at the table for the decisions that are bigger than the monthly close. These are engaged services provided by our firm, not a seat on your payroll.

Fractional CFO Services

Senior financial guidance on a scheduled, part-time basis. We work with you on budgets, margins, pricing, capital needs and the numbers behind the next decision, at whatever cadence the business needs.

Business Financial Planning

Budgets, projections and scenario work for growth, expansion, equipment purchases or a change in the shape of the business.

Business Valuation

A supported view of what the business is worth, for ownership changes, partner transitions, planning or a transaction on the horizon.

Every CFO and advisory service

Specialized And Industry-Specific

Accounting built around inventory, production and food cost, for the businesses where those numbers decide the margin.

Retail And Inventory-Based Businesses

Inventory valuation, cost of goods sold that reconciles to your counts, and margin by product line or department, reviewed with the adjustments it needs every month.

Restaurant And Food Service Accounting

Food and beverage cost tracked against sales, labor and tips run correctly through payroll, and sales tax reconciled every month, on a close built around how a food business runs.

Every industry-specific service

How Engagements Are Scoped

We work on an agreed scope of work rather than an hourly meter. You know what is included, what is not, and what happens when something changes, before the first month starts. Ongoing clients work with us monthly, which is what makes proactive tax work possible in the first place.

It Starts With A Written Letter

Every engagement begins with an engagement letter that lists each service in your package, who handles each task and how often it happens. Nothing is left to memory.

Who Does What Is Clear

Data entry and reconciliations sit with us on Back Office and with your team on CFO and Accounting & Tax. Payroll runs in the platform we agree on: Gusto, ADP or QuickBooks Payroll.

Meetings Are Part Of The Package

Two tax planning meetings come with every package. CFO and Back Office add a yearly goal-setting meeting and a results meeting every month, so the advice is scheduled rather than squeezed in.

Extra Work Is Named, Not Assumed

Projects outside your package, like raising capital or planning an acquisition, are taken on at your request. Annual clients can add consultations, accounting or notice help whenever the year calls for it.

Deadlines Have A Plan

If the documents for an individual return are not all in by March 15, we file an extension rather than rush the return. Every monthly package includes up to two hours a year of help with tax notices.

Some Work Goes To Partners

Financial planning goes to our financial planning partner. Audits, reviews and attestation engagements are not part of our practice, and we will point you to a partner firm when a lender or agency asks for one.

Not Sure Which Of These You Actually Need?

Most owners are not. Walk us through the business and we will tell you which package fits and what, if anything, can wait.
