Weekly And Bi-Weekly Payroll Processing In Michigan
Running payroll yourself turns every payday into a small exam: whose hours changed, who started Monday, whether the new health deduction got set up. Miss one and an employee notices first. We take the whole cycle off your desk.
We run payroll for employers across Michigan and virtually anywhere in the country, in Gusto, ADP or QuickBooks Payroll. Our team handles the pay runs, and when we also keep your monthly bookkeeping, wages and taxes post to the ledger correctly. It is the core of our payroll services.
Payroll rarely travels alone. Contractors paid outside payroll need 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC filing each January, and the records we keep every pay run are the same ones your carrier wants in a workers' comp audit.
Weekly Payroll For Hourly Crews Who Count On Friday
Our weekly payroll processing service suits businesses where hours move every week: restaurant kitchens, retail floors in the summer rush, seasonal staff in a lake town. Hourly workers like a check every week, which helps when you are hiring for the season.
It is also more work: 52 pay runs a year instead of 26, each with hours to approve and tax deposits to schedule. That repetitive, deadline-driven work is what we are set up for. You approve the hours, and we handle the rest.
Bi-Weekly Payroll For Steady Schedules And Salaried Staff
Bi-weekly, sometimes written biweekly, means every other week, which gives most years 26 paydays on the same weekday. It fits small businesses with steady schedules or a mix of hourly and salaried people, halving the pay runs while keeping paychecks predictable.
Two details catch people out. Overtime is still counted by the workweek, so an hourly employee who works 50 hours one week and 30 the next is owed overtime for the first week, even though the pair totals 80. And every so often the calendar hands you a 27th payday, which changes the math for salaries and benefit deductions. We plan for both in advance.
Choosing Between A Weekly And Bi-Weekly Schedule
No wrong answer, only a better fit. Here is what we weigh with you.
What Every Pay Run Carries With It
On either schedule, the same work sits behind each paycheck, and the filings stay on our calendar.
- New hires set up with their W-4, MI-W4 and direct deposit, and reported to the state
- Terminations processed with the final paycheck and remaining deductions settled
- Hours, salaries, tips and bonuses checked against what you approved
- Health insurance, retirement and garnishment deductions applied every run
- Federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare withheld, plus Michigan and any city income tax
- Tax deposits made on the schedule the IRS and Michigan assign you
- Form 941 filed each quarter, with the Michigan withholding and unemployment reports
- W-2s, W-3s and Form 940 filed at year end when no PEO covers them
What Owners Ask Before Handing Over Payroll
Is bi-weekly the same as twice a month?
No. Bi-weekly is every other week, usually 26 paydays a year on the same weekday. Twice a month, often called semi-monthly, gives 24 paydays on set dates such as the 15th and the last day of the month. Our payroll service runs on weekly and bi-weekly schedules.
Can you take over payroll partway through the year?
Yes. We bring over each employee's year-to-date wages and withholding, so nothing is missed or counted twice and January's W-2s reflect the whole year. The quarter you switch in gets the closest look, because its Form 941 has to include everything paid before and after the move.
Do I still approve payroll each time?
You approve hours and changes, and we handle the rest. That gives you one clear checkpoint before money leaves the account: a short summary of hours, pay and anything unusual, in time to look it over before the run goes through.
