Home/Services/Tax Services/Personal Returns (Form 1040)
A Personal Return That Agrees With Your Business.
We prepare Form 1040 for business owners and their families alongside the business return, so the K-1, the wages and the personal return tell the same story, with any Michigan or city return that applies.
Individual Tax Return Preparation In Michigan
For a business owner, the personal return is where everything lands: K-1s, wages from your own company, Schedule C profit, the estimated payments you made or meant to make. Prepared on its own by someone who has never seen the business, it is a stack of numbers copied from other forms. Prepared alongside the business return, it becomes a plan.
We handle personal tax preparation for households and owners across Michigan as part of our tax services: your federal return, plus any state or city return that applies, prepared accurately and in detail, using every legal means to keep your income tax as low as it can be. Monthly clients already have one shareholder 1040 in their package. Everyone else can work with us once a year.
What Every Annual Individual Client Can Count On
If you come to us once a year for your 1040, this is the standard.
- Documents sent to us, and finished returns delivered, electronically
- One consultation by phone, video call or email, with no surprise bill afterward
- Calls and emails returned by the next business day, even in busy season
- Help answering tax authority letters about the year we prepared
- An extension filed if your documents are not all in by March 15
- A portfolio review with our financial planning partner whenever you ask for one
- One tax appointment, at the point in the year you choose
Pick The Tax Appointment That Fits Your Year
Every annual individual return comes with one appointment. You decide when it happens.
One Team For The Business Return And The 1040
When a K-1 from your S-Corp return or the profit from your Schedule C business feeds into the 1040, small mismatches cause real trouble: income counted twice, basis that does not support a loss, estimated payments credited to the wrong year. Preparing both returns together means we catch those before anyone at the IRS does.
It also makes planning possible. If we know in the fall what the business is likely to earn, we can tell you what to set aside for quarterly estimated tax payments and which decisions are worth making before December 31. That is the difference between filling in a return and actually working on your taxes.
Documents Not In By March 15? We File An Extension
We would rather extend than rush your return. If your documents are not all in by March 15, we file an extension that gives you until October 15 to file. It does not extend the time to pay, so we estimate what you owe and tell you what to send by April 15.
Personal Return Questions From Owners And Families
Do you only prepare returns for business owners?
Business owners and their families are who our process is built around. If your situation is simpler than that, ask us anyway. We will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit, and if we are not, we will say so before any work starts.
Which state and city returns do you handle?
Your Michigan individual return, plus any city income tax return that applies. Several Michigan cities levy their own income tax, and whether one applies depends on where you live and work. If you earned income in another state, we prepare that state's return too.
What happens if I get a letter from the IRS about my return?
Send it to us. Help answering tax authority letters about the year we prepared is part of the service, and many letters turn out to be routine requests for information. We tell you what it means, what it is asking for and how to respond.
Is my personal return included if I am a monthly client?
Yes. Every monthly package includes your business return and one shareholder 1040, along with two tax planning meetings a year. If other family members need their own returns, we scope those separately and put it in writing, so you know exactly what is covered before anything is filed.
