Last Month's Numbers, Ready While They Still Matter.
Every transaction coded, every account reconciled and the month formally closed, so the question you have about last month gets answered from real numbers instead of a bank balance and a hunch.
Monthly Bookkeeping In Michigan
Most owners do not need more numbers. They need last month's numbers to be right, and to land while there is still time to act on them. That is what ongoing monthly bookkeeping gives you: a ledger that is current, reconciled and closed, instead of a file rebuilt every spring in a hurry.
We keep the books in QuickBooks Online on the same routine every month for businesses across Michigan and virtually anywhere in the country. It sits at the center of our bookkeeping services, because payroll, sales tax and the tax return are only as good as the ledger underneath them.
What A Closed Month Gives You Back
The work happens in the ledger. The payoff shows up everywhere else in the business.
How A Month Goes From Bank Feed To Closed Books
The routine is the same every month, so you always know what we need from you and when the numbers will be ready.
Transactions Coded As They Land
Bank and card feeds flow into QuickBooks Online. Depending on your package, we enter and code everything each week or review what your team has entered. Anything we cannot identify goes on one short list for you, not a stream of emails.
Every Balance Reconciled
Bank, card and loan balances are matched to their statements. Payables, receivables, accruals and fixed assets with depreciation are reviewed, so the balance sheet holds up as well as the profit and loss.
The Month Formally Closed
Adjusting entries go in, the general ledger is reviewed for accuracy and the period is closed, so the numbers you read do not quietly change afterward.
The Numbers Walked Through With You
You get the profit and loss and balance sheet, and we talk through what moved and why. For a fuller written view, the monthly financial reporting package builds on the same close.
Why A Summer Business Needs Twelve Closes A Year
A lake-town business can do a big share of its year between June and September and spend February living on it. Quarterly or annual books show you that after the fact. Monthly books show it while you can still adjust staffing, inventory orders and owner draws.
If volume is light or the business goes quiet all winter, quarterly bookkeeping may suit you better, and we will say so.
Monthly Bookkeeping Questions Owners Ask Us
Do I have to use QuickBooks Online?
Yes, it is where we keep client books, and every partner here is a QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor. If you are on something else today, we move you over during onboarding and build the file properly first. You keep access and ownership of your own file the entire time.
What if my books are already months behind?
Then we catch up first. We take stock of what exists, tell you plainly what shape the records are in and scope the work in writing before anything starts. Bigger gaps are handled through annual and catch-up bookkeeping, and once the file is current, the monthly routine takes over.
Can you handle payroll and my tax return as well?
Yes, and most clients work with us that way. Our monthly packages pair the close with your business return and one shareholder 1040, and Back Office adds weekly or bi-weekly payroll. With one team on both, tax planning happens during the year instead of after it.
